Narrative Essays - WWE Hall Of Fame, Masked Wrestlers, Bob Pratt

Story Essays - WWE Hall Of Fame, Masked Wrestlers, Bob Pratt Story The whole recreation center was quiet. Everyone in the exercise center was remaining as of now, with their eyes focused on the little, thin young lady, whose figure copied that of the receiver she was holding. Hearing her voice reminded me the feathered creatures that peeped and sang magnificently to stir me every single morning. As I remained on the end line with my group, my eyes filtered the skyline. Seeing the cheap seats completely filled caused me to acknowledge how fortunate I truly was. I had shivers experiencing my body, similar to it was Christmas morning or something, as everybody restlessly anticipated the game to start. This is the thing that secondary school dreams are made of. As the group sat quietly, the players gradually clustered around. This is the second that the group had feared throughout the entire season, and it has happened just two plays into the match. An ethereal view would show the hover of players accumulated around a fallen man, number nine. This would be a long match if this genius didn't come back to the game, he had worked himself into turning into the central core of this group, in that he was primary main thrust of motivation each match. Just by watching him you could see that ordinary he was giving 110% and nothing less. He was a prime case of somebody who adores the game they play. As he lay there shouting in torment and snatching his lower leg as though he had a mending contact, no one comprehended what to do yet remain there and watch. The whole field was totally quiet, even the rival groups fans didnt recognize what to do. The child that everybody called mill operator time, who was wearing a cut volleyball on his head and had his amazingly enormous gut painted red and white, the groups school hues, stopped in middle of his wild conduct. See this was a deplorable disaster that you think just occurs in motion pictures. In any case, the truth of the issue was this was genuine, possibly excessively genuine. It appeared as if time had halted as though a higher being took the remote control and hit the interruption button so they could get another brew and go ease themselves in the washroom. As of now everybody was observing cautiously, as though there lottery numbers were being perused and they were just one number away from the bonanza, to the basic tests that the mentor on the job was performing on the fallen friend. In any case, every development just achieved more agony. See let me clarify why this was such a terrible thing, that number nine had gone down to a lower leg injury. This was the 1999 State Volleyball Championship. The match had just barely started. In volleyball there are matches, each match comprises of a lot of games. Each game is up to fifteen focuses. The primary group to win the best out of five games is the victor. Number nine who was just a lesser had in truth become the most prevailing player in the state as a lesser in a group, whose program was totally ruled by more seasoned, greater senior. The group additionally has a noteworthy history for winning; they had won the title the most recent two years, and had won it multiple times over the most recent eleven years. Likewise the group had gone undefeated for as far back as two seasons preceding this one. In any case, this season was at that point unique, in that the group had just lost a game this season. Yet, what makes the story considerably increasingly unfathomable is that the group who had beaten them in the season, Minnachaug Regional High School of western Massachusetts, was the group who they were playing in this state title coordinate. In any case, during the standard season coordinate, number nine didnt even get off the seat, he hadnt created or substantiated himself as a competent player yet, so the mentor went with one of the senior individuals who had done their sitting the earlier season during that state title run. The group started to applaud courteously as his mentor and a kindred colleague took away number nine. You could tell he was in unbearable torment by the

Critically Assess the Uses and Limitations of Financial Statements Essay Example for Free

Basically Assess the Uses and Limitations of Financial Statements Essay Basically survey the utilizations and confinements of budget summaries The definition for a fiscal summary is a composed report which quantitatively portrays the money related wellbeing of an organization. (www. investorwords. com) It comprises of an accounting report, pay proclamations and an income articulation. This paper will fundamentally asses the utilizations and constraints of every one of these sorts of budget reports for a business. An accounting report shows the money related state of a business at a particular date (Langemeier Klinefelter 2008). It shows what is possessed by the business, what is owed and the owner’s share (total assets) of the business. The monetary record has three primary employments. Right off the bat, it is utilized for detailing purposes as a major aspect of a constrained company’s yearly records. These must be appeared to Companies House, HM Revenue and Customs and any investors except if concurred something else. It is additionally used to let potential investor’s or loan specialists asses the value of a business at some random time. Along these lines they can decide whether they figure they ought to put cash into the business as per how dissolvable the business is, the means by which fluid its benefits are, the way the business is financed and how much capital is being utilized. At long last they can be utilized by the business itself to examine how to improve its administration. There are a couple of restrictions of a monetary record as certain estimations of current resources are assessed (www. businesslink. gov. uk); along these lines the monetary record doesn't mirror a 100% exact budgetary situation of a business. Additionally, the fixed resources in a critical position sheet have taken the deterioration of the advantage into thought thus the genuine worth isn't appeared. At long last, impalpable resources, for example, generosity can't be estimated and are in this way evaluated figures as well and might be erroneous along these lines causing the entire monetary record to be inaccurate. In this manner an asset report is helpful from numerous points of view as long as whoever is deciphering the considers brings with thought that a couple of the figures are not exact. A salary proclamation, otherwise called a benefit and misfortune account, gauges the benefits or misfortunes a business has made over a specific timeframe (cash zine. com). In the event that a business wishes to grow and needs a bank credit they should create their benefit and misfortune represents the past three years so the bank can see whether they will have the option to reimburse the advance. These must be exact records or it will be considered as misrepresentation. There are numerous points of interest of staying up with the latest records. Right off the bat, it gives a business the data it should be overseen and help it develop. In the event that a business can see where its solid or powerless focuses are, at that point it can discover approaches to improve for instance by eliminating costs. It likewise empowers a business to create their salary proclamation rapidly whenever required and filling in their expense form simpler and snappier which thusly decreases the danger of enthusiasm for late assessment installments. These budget reports are typically accessible to the open which implies contenders can perceive how each other are getting along, anyway not many individuals comprehend them when all exchanges are recorded in bigger organizations. There are likewise a few restrictions of salary explanations one being that its information doesn't enlighten the client anything concerning what may occur later on or factors that may influence future development of the organization. It is essentially constrained to bookkeeping information. The subsequent confinement is that not all organizations utilize a worthy bookkeeping strategy. A model from www. cash zine. com states that â€Å"if a business chooses to quicken deterioration then they hurt momentary total compensation and profit (devaluation cost is bigger). In the event that they utilize straight line devaluation, total compensation in prior years will be higher yet it will be lower later on (all things being equal)†. The last kind of budget report is an income proclamation. It records the inflow and surge of money over some stretch of time. The income proclamation permits financial specialists to see how a companys activities are running, where its cash is coming from, and how it is being spent. Concurring Hertenstein Article 26 there are three primary individuals that need to see a business’s income proclamations. Right off the bat investors need to know whether the business is producing enough money to deliver profits. Also providers need to know whether their clients will have the option to pay whenever offered credit. Thirdly financial specialists need to assess future development potential. These kinds of budgetary records are modest to keep up in light of the fact that you don't need to be a prepared bookkeeper to create them as they are not a confused as different sorts of monetary records. In spite of the fact that the income explanation is a valuable device of money related investigation, it has its own confinements which must be remembered at the hour of its utilization. The primary impediment is that the income explanation just records money exchanges thus disregards the fundamental bookkeeping idea of accumulations and tems purchased on layaway and hence are not reasonable for making a decision about the gainfulness of a business. Likewise income articulations are readied utilizing verifiable data which is before. In this way it doesn't asses what may occur later on to a business’s accounts. All in all, there are numerous utilizations for budget reports as they give a strong image of a business’s execution when contrasted with one another, and the clients can without much of a stretch spot defects in the entity’s monetary position and deal with these appropriately. Anyway their constraints must be viewed as while investigating the information as they just gracefully the peruser with over a significant time span quantitative information and don't address any of the subjective financial factors, for example, the resolve of the workers or the nature of the supervisory group. There is presently no chance to get of estimating these elusive resources, despite the fact that a business’s HR are a portion of its most significant resources.

Democracy of india - Free Essay Example

India is a large and strategically important democratic country with a growing service sector and significant industrial (including nuclear and aerospace) capabilities. It has the second largest population in the world and is a major military and economic power in Asia. As measured by nominal gross domestic product, India is the tenth largest economy. If economic size is measured by purchasing power, i.e. based on global prices for what people buy, then according to the World Bank, India is already the fourth largest economy in the world, just behind the USA, China, and Japan (The Economist, 2001) Policy mandarins launched a much needed and wide-ranging macroeconomic liberalization, reforms, and restructuring program. The rupee was devalued, fiscal imbalances were addressed and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was approached for balance of payments support. A stabilization package was agreed upon with the IMF. Dr Manmohan Singh, a widely respected trained economist, was the finance minister during the early 1990s, was the architect of this IMF-assisted, market-oriented, and reform program. Strictly regulated bureaucratic controls over the economy began to be loosen. Policy measures were initiated to liberalize external sector and decontrol industry. This resulted in giving the development strategy a new direction towards trade and private sector (Mukherji, 2008). Indias approach to development strategy represented a pioneering attempt by a non-western ex-colony to achieve higher standards of living through conscious and deliberate creation of institutions and policies, and through active state participation in, and direction of the process of development. It emphasized modernization through selfreliance, while enhancing social and economic equity. It is fair to say that this initial conceptualization of Indias development strategy was met with a reasonable degree of consensus and approval, both domestically and internationally. Academic ideas that found expression in Indias post-independence policymaking were relatively prevailing at the time. Many industrialized nati ons also took similar approaches to fostering economic progress in that era, albeit with different initial conditions. (Nirvikar, 2009) Indias recent economic success has come largely from newer industries, with a large component of intellectual capital and skills, such as the information technology industry and pharmaceutical research. From India, a group of world-class companies (competitive global brands) such as Infosys in software, Ranbaxy in pharmaceuticals, Bajaj Auto in automobile components, and Tata in car innovation have emerged. All or almost all these companies started as entrepreneurial efforts. Out of Forbes 200 of the worlds best small companies in 2002, there were 13 Indian firms as compared to Chinas four (Huang and Khanna, 2003; Huang, 2006). India Gross Domestic Product (GDP) expanded 6.10% over the last 4 quarters. The India Gross Domestic Product is worth 1217 billion dollars or 1.96% of the world economy, according to the World Bank. The Importance Of Freedom In America - 1256 Words

Freedom has been present in American literature and American history ever since this country was formed. Ever since the colonists declared independence from England, freedom has been the staple of America and it continues to be as many people leave their homes and come to our country just to seek it. The Declaration of Independence started the need for freedom and later documents such as What Is The Fourth of July to a Negro continued the prospect of everyone deserving freedom in America. Everyone deserves to have the same rights and the same freedoms of anyone else, it doesnt matter where you live or what you look like everyone has the freedom of speech and thought. The freedom of thought is something that freedom is built on, what you†¦show more content†¦That was an all time low for american freedom, it was a time of abused rights and power for the slave owners and a time of beating and being mistreated for slaves. The slaves had no freedom to equal rights or to share the ir thoughts, they barely had the freedom to think, let alone be listened to, it was a that America shall frankly be ashamed of and look back and reflect on that time and treat everyone as if they have the same freedoms we all shall have. Some slaves had no respect for this country during that period, as said in The Meaning of Fourth of July for the Negro. The excerpt agrees with this statement â€Å"But such is not the state of the case. I say it with a sad sense of the disparity between us. I am not included within the pale of glorious anniversary! It’s 7:25 on a Friday night the opening night of my high school’s musical. The cast and crew are in a circle holding hands. Our director begins to speak and everyone’s energy level spikes. After pepping us up, she whispers a question, â€Å"What time is it?† We respond, â€Å"Showtime.† â€Å"What time is it?† she asks again. â€Å"Showtime,† we reply. Finally, she screams, â€Å"What time is it?† We scream, â€Å"Showtime!† and the sound reverberates against the walls. The only thought that crosses my mind in this circle has to do with my passion. Passion is the driving force behind every part of my life. I have passion for my friends and family, for serving and helping others, for learning and knowledge, but the area of my life I am most passionate about is theater. Theater excites me. I used to wake up every morning and wonder, What new and great things am I going to learn today? Now instead of being excited about school, I am challenged by what new set pieces I will build or what will happen at rehearsal. One of the main reasons I am not excited by school is I’m bored with the pace of classes. I learn faster and easier than almost everyone but instead of just tuning everything out, I keep interested by helping others learn the material. I have discovered I am good at finding little tricks to explain something so classmates will understand what the teacher is talking about. I would like to be more challenged in school, which is why I am excited to go to college. I want to go to MIT because I know that your university will challenge me. I believe that at MIT my passion for learning will once again equal my passion for theater or even surpass it. I want this to happen because I love to learn.

The Charge Of The Light Brigade Essay Example

The Charge Of The Light Brigade Paper Alfred Tennyson and Siegfried Sassoon approach the subject of war in different ways. While Tennyson gives the impression that the soldiers who are mentioned in his poem are heroes, Sassoon does not try to glorify war and shows us the bloody realism of conflict. An important point to note is the date when Tennyson wrote The Charge Of The Light Brigade. It was written on April 10 1864; almost ten years after the actual battle took place. Tennyson understood that if he were to write it soon after the battle, people would not like it, as the morale of the nation would have been low after such a defeat. He was a popular poet of the time and swayed to public opinion, and releasing the poem straight after the war could damage his reputation. Sassoon did not have such a reputation to uphold and since he had served in the military during the war, he was able to give a first hand account of the shocking brutality of war. While the purpose of Tennysons poem would have been to raise public spirits, Sassoons was to educate the people about war and how terrible it was. The attitude in Tennysons poem is varied. He praises the soldiers for their bravery (Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, and condemns those who did not fight, most notably the captains, and calls into question the military hierarchy (Someone had blunderd: Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die:). He does this subtly and avoids naming the captain who had blundered, as doing this could cause public uproar and he could be held responsible. Toward the end of the poem, particularly the last stanza, the attitude is very upbeat, almost as if they had won the battle (When can their glory fade? O the wild charge they made! We will write a custom essay sample on The Charge Of The Light Brigade specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on The Charge Of The Light Brigade specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on The Charge Of The Light Brigade specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer All the world wonderd. Honour the charge they made! Honour the Light Brigade, Noble six hundred! ). In this stanza, the word wonderd is ambiguous. It could mean wondered, as at first glance it may seem to, or it could also mean amazed, depending on which way it is interpreted. With those six lines, he turns defeat into heroism, and makes the soldiers out to be heroes. Sassoons attitude is very downbeat, and he does not try to glorify things like Tennyson does in his final stanza. He gives an honest, brutal account of war and its consequences. The attitude is the same throughout, unlike the varying attitude in Tennysons. Tennyson tries to help the public understand the poem with the inclusion of a bible passage. In the first stanza, he writes Into the valley of Death. This is a quote from Psalms 23, and as many people were highly religious and attended church in Victorian times, including a bible phrase in the poem would help them to understand. Sassoons contains very little biblical reference, apart from a single crude reference at the very end (O Jesus, make it stop! ). This is probably because Sassoon made his poem easy to understand and unlike Tennysons poem, there are no cryptic or ambiguous phrases. Sassoon draws the reader into the battle, but it seems fairly linear compared to Tennysons. He uses the phrase Rode the six hundred three times, and this gives an impression of the grand scale of the battle. Another word that he repeats many times is Death. He uses it to make it seem inevitable that the soldiers are about to die, despite them battling bravely and standing up to gunfire (Boldly they rode and well, Into the jaws of Death). In Sassoons poem, he does not use the word at all but strongly hints that the same fate awaits the soldiers. There are many metaphors in Sassoons poem. He starts it with the ljne At dawn the ridge emerges massed and dun, which gives an impression of an enormous, intimidating ridge emerging from the darkness. It is a good metaphor to use and helps build up atmosphere at the start of the poem, as does the next line (In the wild purple of the glowring sun). The line The menacing scarred slope; and, one by one, Tanks creep and topple forward to the wire suggests that this is not the first battle but that it has been the scene of many battles before. The second part gives visions of these enormous machines peering out from over the top of the slope, coming toward the soldier clumsily. These are both effective lines and add to the atmosphere before the actual battle begins. Lines of grey, muttering faces, masked with fear, They leave their trenches, going over the top is an important line in the poem. It tells us that the soldiers are frozen with fear, as if emotionless because they know that they are soon to die. Going over the top is a common war phrase and people would instantly recognise this and understand what it means. The soldiers realise that they will die anyway so they charge over the top to fight the enemy. This is an important line in the poem, as it envisages just how brutal and shocking war can be. The final line of the poem (Flounders in mud. O Jesus, make it stop! ) tells us how the soldiers fall and struggle on the muddy battlefield, and the second part of the line makes the first part seem even more effective in expressing the soldiers desperation and torment. People at the time would have been angry that Sassoon had used Jesus name so casually because they were very religious in Victorian times. His finishing line is very different to Tennysons, who praises the soldiers and ends on an upbeat attitude. Sassoon does not glorify war at all. Although Tennyson does not use many metaphors, he uses other effects such as alliteration, repetition and anaphora to great effect. His first line (Half a league, half a league, Half a league onward) is anaphoric. He uses is to good effect and makes it sound like horses hooves clattering rhythmically on the ground. One instance where he uses repetition to good effect is in the fourth stanza (Cannon to the right of them, Cannon to the left of them, Cannon behind them). This tells us that they were surrounded, with nowhere to go but they fought on bravely and is very atmospheric. Also in the fourth stanza, which seems to be the main stanza describing battle, he writes Reeld from the sabre-stroke, Shatterd and sunderd. This is a good example of alliteration. He makes the soldiers seem down and out, shaken by the battle and with no energy left, only for them to ride heroically back into the valley. While he does not glorify war in any way, he celebrates the soldiers who died during the battle and turns their defeat into heroism.

Acetaminophen Lab essays

Acetaminophen Lab essays The purpose of this lab was to use our techniques that we have learned so far in lab in order to synthesize acetaminophen from p-aminophenol and acetic anhydride. This lab was also intended to teach us how to isolate and recrystallize our compound in order to get rid of as much impurities as possible and check the purity using the melting points. Lastly, this lab helped us continue to use thin-layer chromatography in order to compare our compound to similar compounds that can be found on the shelf in order to find the active ingredients in the different analgesics. In order to start the synthesis of acetaminophen I did an acid-base reaction by adding concentrated hydrochloric acid to p-aminophenol. The p-aminophenol was then mixed with some charcoal, turning the mixture black, and then filtrated out by gravity. After this I used a buffer solution of sodium acetate to mix with the p-aminophenol and then immediately added 2 mL of acetic anhydride in order to complete the ingredients required for the synthesis. The reaction was then cooled and the crude crystallized acetaminophen was collected by vacuum filtration. I was able to retrieve 1.88g of the crude acetaminophen, which turned out to be a 64.4% yield based on the fact that p-aminophenol was the limiting reactant for this synthesis. The melting point found for the crude was 160-162 degrees Celsius, which is about 20 degrees below the melting point of pure acetaminophen, meaning that the crude product has some impurities. Part B. Recrystallization of Acetaminophen I placed .504g of the crude acetaminophen into a test tube and added boiling water, our solvent, drop-wise until the crude acetaminophen was completely dissolved. This solution was then cooled slowly in order for crystals to form and was then collected by vacuum filtration. The amount recovered from the recrystallization turned out to be .399g, which meant that I recovered 79. ...

What is Action Research Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

What is Action Research - Essay Example What lies at the core of this research methodology is the use of scientific study and the researcher ensures that the overall intervention is properly backed up by the theoretical considerations. Due to its very nature, action research therefore can have many applications in real life and within organizational set up too. Organizations can easily use action research to find creative and innovative solutions to their most pressing problems and engage various stakeholders to find out solutions which can help organizations to become more efficient and cost effective. Action research can also play significant role in organizational development and employee’s professional life. It can easily be used in various situations by the employees as well as the managers to overcome organizational problems and achieve the required objectives of the organization. Through following a systematic process of action research, individuals as well as organizations can actually solve their real life problems. This paper will discuss as to what action research is, what its various stages are and how it can actually be used in real life by citing different examples. What is Action Research? As mentioned above, action research is also known by different names including participatory research, collaborative research, action learning etc. Most of different names however, are considered as different variations of the same theme. Action research aims to achieve dual objectives of using practical concerns in solving the problems and on the other hand to further the goals of social science also. As such, in action research, researchers not only aim to tackle the system but also collaborate with people related with the system to change in the desired direction. (Mcniff) The critical difference between this type of research and other types of research is the use of scientific study. While conducting action research, researcher has to base assertions on the theoretical consideration and as such most of the time spent by researchers is on perfecting the methodological tools to better suit the situation being investigated. Action research also seems to challenge the social science research which is mostly based upon sampling by adapting a robust process of conducting research. Action research therefore focuses on continuous process of theorizing and collecting data and making inquiry in the midst of new and emerging structures as a result of the steps taken at the various stages of research. (Whitehead and McNiff) Stages of Action Research There are three critical stages of action research which are: Planning This is the stage of preliminary diagnosis and data gathering as research actively engages into gathering of data and planning for finding out what actually the problem is and how to tackle it properly. This is also called the input stages as at this stage it is felt that there is something out of control and organization should share the same with the researchers and consultants to actively participate into the process of finding out what is actually wrong at the given point in time. Feedback by the researcher is also sought at this stage of the action research. Action Stage This stage is also called transformation stage as it is this stage that the actual learning starts to take place. Actions regarding learning processes are undertaken in order to define action steps and do the action planning. This stage is also considered as the changing stage as it is at this stage that the actual change process is initiated. Result Phase This phase is the final phase and is also called the

William Shakespeare’s Othello Essay Example for Free

William Shakespeare’s Othello Essay William Shakespeare is a talented dramatist, actor and poet whose popularity remains unsurpassed until today.   Until now his plays are still being performed not only in Western countries but also in Asia and in other non-English speaking countries as well.   (â€Å"William Shakespeare 14)   Indeed he is recognized as one of the greatest dramatist of all time. William Shakespeare’s birth place is the town of Stratford-upon-Avon.   His exact date of birth is not accurately known since there are no existing records.   However, based on his baptismal record which is on April 26, 1564 appearing in the parish register of Holy Trinity Church, his birth date could probably be April 23, 1564.    This is because the baptism of children during William Shakespeare’s time happens just two or three days after birth. (Amanda Mabillard 4) The names of his parents are John Shakespeare, a prominent glove maker, and Mary Arden, the daughter of a wealthy landowner.   He is the third among the children of eight.   He started his education at the age of six (6) at the Stratford grammar school.   Latin is the primary language that school uses which is why he learned a great deal about Latin and the works of Latin authors.   (David Ross 2) His wife’s name is Anne Hathaway whom he married at the age of 18.   She is 26 years of age at the time and pregnant fueling speculation that the marriage may have been forced. Nevertheless, William Shakespeare had three children with her whose names are Susanna, Hamnet and Judith who are twins. (Folger Shakespeare Library 1) He eventually decides to leave Stratford and his family to pursue his dreams of becoming an actor.   Not much is known from him for several years until in 1592 where he attains sufficient success as an actor.   However, his rise to fame started because of his poems such as Venus and Adonius (1593), and Rape of Lucrece (1594).   Two years after, he gains recognition for his plays. It must however be stressed that Shakespeare’s fortune came not from acting or from writing poetry or plays.   Shakespeare’s fortune came from his investment in a theatrical company.   After he earns enough money, Shakespeare uses his earnings to invest in a theatrical company known as Lord Chamberlain’s men where he not only acts but also writes plays for the company. Shakespeare dies of a fever on April 23, 1616, the same month and day he is believed to have been born.   (Encarta MSN 1) He leaves to his two daughters Susana and Judith, the bulk of his estate and 300 pounds, respectively.   He gives his wife their â€Å"second-best bed with the furniture.† (Encarta MSN 1)

Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck and The Ostler written by Wilkie Collins :: English Literature

The two stories iam going to compare are Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck in 1937 and The Ostler written by Wilkie Collins in 1985. For this assignment I am going to compare and contrast the themes and languages of two poems. The two poems I am going to describe are 'Old Father' written by Hugh Boatswain and 'Island Man' by Grace Nicholas. Old Father is about a certain immigrant who lives in England in the winter of 1959. The poem is written in a West-Indian dialect. The poem is about a black man who denies his roots and wants to become like a 'White Man'. He does this by acting like them for example he wears white clothes also he likes it in England and to stay there. Island Man is about a certain immigrant who lives in Neasdon, in London. He has a dream about waking up in his own land in the Caribbean Sea, hearing the sound of the sea. This immigrant does not like London and prefers living back home in the Caribbean. The poem is written in one long dialect. There is only one similarity in the theme of both poems. They both are poems about a certain person who is different to society. Old Father is about a black man living in England denying his roots: "That don't like serving black people." This emphasises that, he has changed into someone different, someone who he is not. It also suggests that he is trying to impersonate a 'white man'. Another way he does this, is by insulting black people: "And he crack joke with them white people on we." This suggests that he is showing them that he is not a black man. He may look like one, but in his own mind he is not. In my opinion, I would say he loves living in London. However, we have no evidence why he does not go back to the Caribbean. There are also a series of differences between the two poems in the themes between the two poems. In Old Father we realise that he loves England: "His roots have no meaning now. " So he likes it in England and doesn't want to leave England. He has also forgotten who he is. He is trying to be like the 'White Man', not the black man that he really is. We also see that he has changed into someone different: "Coloured girls no good for he." This shows that he has totally changed into someone different, as he is coloured and not going out with coloured girls.

Proposal Sample Essay

Childhood obesity is a prevalent problem in the United States today. As of 2008, 20% of children aged 6-11 are considered obese. This is due to lack of fresh and healthy food alternatives, lack of education on nutrition and disease and the decrease in physical activity in today’s youth are the defining factors that contributed to this now nationwide epidemic. H.Y.F.R, with the help of local community grocers, is geared to defeat the issue of obesity in youths of low-income families. Families at or below poverty level have little to no access to healthy foods to feed their children. H.Y.F.R knows the battle with obesity will be a long and hard one, but with the support of our allies, community members and parents, we can stop our children from getting bigger and bigger, sicker and sicker. Research Findings As per the research conducted in this proposal, there are many health risks associated with obesity in children. There are chronic diseases known to plague adults such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, joint pain or pressure, various types of cancers and high cholesterol are starting to be diagnosed in our youth. Lack of involvement on the parts of parents is the most influential factor as to why we are seeing obesity in children. Parents who lack education on what’s nutritious are a detriment to the health of their children. Factors like socioeconomic status and cultural issues also play a role. First lady Michelle Obama has taken a firm stand in opposition to childhood obesity. Visiting grammar schools in the capital have made a resounding impact on the importance of a healthy diet. Project Description The goal of H.Y.F.R is to decrease obesity and promote healthy youth’s for the future. H.Y.F.R has created four objectives that focus on achieving the goal of the organization. The first of these objectives is to set the foundation for health in today’s youth. Fostering a positive attitude, and reinforcing new healthy behaviors and alternatives will make the chance of permanent change more likely. Second, H.Y.F.R knows that healthy choices and behaviors must be continued in the household. Educating parents is paramount. Providing literature and information for parents to continue the healthy lifestyle for their child will also increase the likelihood for permanent change. The third objective would be to involve the community in our efforts to reduce obesity in our youth. Organizing fitness events and utilizing farmers markets will increase the odds that children will respond to these initiatives. Our last objective is to have a recreational center to call our own. Havin g open green space and an enclosed gymnasium will allow a safe haven for these inner city youths to exercise and get healthy in a clean and safe environment. Methodology There is a list of activities that we will implement to help achieve our goal. Sports like volleyball, tennis, baseball and softball are just a few of the activities the youths will engage in to help shed their excess weight and jump start their healthy lifestyles. Interactive classes like dance and Zumba will make losing weight fun for children who are heavily distracted otherwise. Separating the youths by age will allow for a comfortable environment in which to exercise and interact which promotes comfort. Staff/Administration Properly trained and credentialed staffing is crucial to any organization. H.Y.F.R knows this and has listed the necessary personnel that will help keep the organization running at its maximum potential. Project manager, project administrator, program coordinator, nurse, health educator, nutritionist, counselor, lifeguard (volunteer/intern), dance instructor (volunteer/intern) and maintenance personnel are essential to the smooth operation of the various projects. Budget H.Y.F.R is a not for profit organization. With this in mind, the budget total is estimated to be 957,740.00 dollars including the salaries and other expenses. Sustainability H.Y.F.R can only continue operating with the contributions of local philanthropists and other charities. Hosting bake sales (organic and healthy items) and other types of fundraisers will generate funds to keep this program moving forward. Michelle Obama also as headed an initiative towards this goal and if this organization could utilize that, there could be other funds to be gained. Evaluation Quarterly evaluation of the success of H.Y.F. R is vital. Knowing where the organization stands is essential. The program would benefit form a constant learning processes. Evaluating strengths and weaknesses can help determine what improvements can be made to improve its efficacy. Evaluating also generates knew knowledge. Things not known before can come about and inspire new aspects of the program. Parts such as the budget and the allotment of the granted funds will also be evaluated in the expectation to reduce costs and put the money back into the program where it is needed. H.Y.F.R’s partners, methodological ordinations and feedback from the community will all help to evaluate. The opinions of all are important. Evaluations from external sources do cost a sizable amount of money. Conducting a standard evaluation would account for 5% to 10% of the total budget. Evaluations would be done via surveys, database reports and minutes taken from the meetings. The length of time it takes the targeted population to lose weight and start their healthier lifestyles will determine the success or failure of the organization. Variables like culture and ethnicity will be considered. Statement of Need The prevalence of Childhood Obesity is a rising issue in America. Moreover, in order for us to control this issue it is imperative for us to implement a program designed to prevent, reduce and eliminate obesity in the New York City area. Lately, youths dealing with obesity have developed diseases that are prevalent in older adults such as; high blood pressure, high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and joint problems. Other diseases include sleep apnea and various types of cancers. Obese children often get teased and bullied by schoolmates because of their weight, which can result in social and psychological problems. Also, stigmatization and poor self-esteem can occur after dealing with bullying and teasing (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The population targeted for H.Y.F.R (Healthy Youths For Real) includes boys, girls, young men, and young women in New York City. We would also like to target all five boroughs by uniting them together to overcome obesity in our young people. Obese children that stem from low-income families often reside in the most impoverished communities in NYC. These communities lack adequate facilities designed for physical recreation. The availability of healthier food choices in the neighborhood is an ongoing issue, especially with the high prevalence of fast food restaurants in the area. Some of the under privileged areas also have high-crime rates, making whatever nearby parks available a safety issue. It is proven that the most effective way to defeat obesity is through a healthy diet and exercise. In addition, there are other factors used to help facilitate this change of behavior in our youths, such as the involvement of the parents. At H.Y.F.R we believe, if the parents are involved in their children’s lifestyle they will be very influential on their child’s healthier eating habits. If H.Y.F.R were not able to implement a non-profit program in the community, youths of low-income families would not have access to a recreation center designed to educate, prevent, and reduce childhood obesity. It is essential that H.Y.F.R. create a recreation center for today’s youths because of the rising costs of gyms, parks and recreation centers in our communities today. Research Findings Childhood obesity is becoming an issue in our communities instantaneously and long term. â€Å"Obese youth are more likely to have risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. In a population-based sample of 5- to 17-year-olds, 70% of obese youth had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Whereas for the long term effect of childhood obesity lead to: â€Å"Children and adolescents who are obese are likely to be obese as adults and are therefore more at risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, several types of cancer, and osteoarthritis.† â€Å"Overweight and obesity are associated with increased risk for many types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, colon, endometrium, esophagus, kidney, pancreas, gall bladder, thyroid, ovary, cervix, and prostate, as well as multiple myeloma and Hodgkin’s lymphoma (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). These statistics speaks volumes and provide valuable information of what is occurring and will occur with our youths of the future and yet the childhood obesity rates continue to rise. Childhood obesity is categorized by age groups 10-17 & 18-24: â€Å"adolescents† as individuals in the 10-19 years of age group and â€Å"youth† as the 15-24 year age group. The first time I heard about the great Frida Kahlo was in my AP Spanish class during my Sophomore year of high school. Her unibrow and enigmatic look piqued my interest before her paintings did.The Mexican portrait painterwastrulyan influential artist who combined traditional themes with a contemporary style and also helped to promote the role of women in the art world(kahlo.org). I researched about the artist and learned she lived a very painful and turbulent life. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Self-portraiture of Frida Kahlo" essay for you Create order Kahlos works are often a reflection of her experiences as a woman. Coincidentally, when I discovered Kahlo, my parents were divorcing and I was heartbroken. I chose to analyzeLas Dos Fridas(The Two Fridas) because I saw how divorce can truly destroy a person. Las Dos Fridaswas Kahlos largest painting and was completed in 1939 after her divorce from the famous Mexican muralist, Diego Rivera. Its a portrait of love, heart-break and duality(kahlo.org). One good observation to point out is that Frida is notorious for using human anatomy as an element of form in her portraits. The representation of blood seen throughout her pieces is symbolic for loss and death as well as unity and family linage. In this particular portrait, two identical Fridas appear wearing distinct attire which represent the artist in different points in her life. A vein runs between the two Fridas communicating unity; hearts are exposed and vulnerable to love. The woman of the right wears a traditional Mexican dress a nd tightly holds a locket of young Diego in her hand. The vein connecting her full heart to the locket is intact. This represents the flow of innocent love between her and Diego. The woman of the left wears a European style wedding dress and clamps down on the vein completely severing ties between her broken heart and Diego. Blood stains her dress and she risks bleeding to death. In the background we see an eerie andstormy sky filled with agitated clouds may reflect Fridas inner turmoil(fridakahlo.org). During their marriage, Kahlo became increasingly involved in the study of the indigenous people as Rivera held a strong sense of Mexican nationalism.Sheutilized Mexican indigenista iconography to relate both a personal and political output in her paintings(theartstory.org). InLas Dos Fridas, her Tehuana dress transmit those cultural elements. Kahlo is of German European descent through paternal lineage. Her whiteembroidereddress represents her staying in touch with her European roots. Kahlo utilized oil on canvas to create and layLas Dos Fridas.I believe she obtained inspiration for her choice of mediums through the European Renaissance.Oil painting dominated because of its flexibility, the richness of its colors, and the extraordinary durability and long-lasting qualities(Jacobus Martin 67). As far as elements of painting, Kahlo uses line, color and texture composition inLas Dos Fridas. Her use of a closed lines is essential in order to distinguish two separate women and two separate hearts. The continuous directional line leads us to the vein that flows between them. However, theres also minimal use of open lines within the sky. The blurriness may communicate uncertainty and emotional instability. Color has always been one of the most dominating elements in Frida Kahlos works of art. During my research for AP Spanish, I because curious about the artists choice of color. In her diary she explains the meaning of color and emotions tied to each hue. For example, yellow, a color typically associated with happiness and sunshine, brings sadness and sorrow to Kahlo. The color b rown represents a leaf falling and decaying into the earth and blue represents electric love. By her choice of blue to brown color gradient in her Tehuana dress, Ive concluded that she was deeply in love and towards the end of her marriage her love for Diego decayed. Although she doesnt mention the color white, it may signify a purifying new beginning or coldness. Understanding the meaning behind each color can help the observer have a better participation with not only the piece but also the artist. Kahlo explores texture through her the ruffled clothing, heavy clouds and perfect anatomical illustration of the heart. Composition refers to the ordering of relationships(Jacobus Martin 78) through principles, such as unity, balance, and proportion, that help the artist develop a natural compositional flow. This element of painting is about making the small piece work together to create a masterpiece. According to theMuseo de Arte Modernoin Mexico City, Las Dos Fridasis large scale painting thats has real life-size proportions. She expresses the principle of unity and balance t hrough the holding of hands at the center of the portrait. The holding of hands might symbolize that she is her best and own companion, as Frida Kahlo herself would say I am my own muse, the subject I know best. Frida Kahlo is one of my favorite artists because despite her hardships, she continued to pursue her passion for art and turn her sufferings into masterpieces to share with the world. Although some claim that Kahlo was obsessed with self-portraiture, I believe it was the healthiest way she could cope with her troubled life. In fact, she probably had higher levels of self-awareness than any other artist because she chose to be vulnerable and share her life with the world. If I had another opportunity to write about Frida Kahlos works of art I would certainly do it again. I have gained abundant amount of knowledge and have learned how to apply the principles needed to effectively dissect a work of art.It has truly been an insightful experience analyzing of the famousLas Dos Fr idas.
